Book Launch for The Collected Papers of J. L. Moles Edited by John Marincola and published by Brill

2024-04-26

On 1 June 2023, at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, a celebration was held to mark the publication by Brill of The Collected Papers of J. L. Moles, edited by John Marincola.

John Moles, the founding editor of Histos, made numerous contributions to the study of Greek and Roman historiography and biography, Cynic philosophy, Dio Chrysostom, and Greek and Latin literature in general. The two volumes of his collected papers include all of his published work together with six previously unpublished essays.

The celebration on 1 June brought together many of John’s family, friends, and colleagues, and as part of that celebration we offer here a video of the remarks made by: Ruth Chambers, John’s widow; Mirjam Elbers, Classics editor at Brill (who could not attend by whose remarks were read by Scott Scullion); Ewen Bowie; Damien Nelis; Rowland Smith (who could not attend and whose remarks were read by John Marincola); and John Marincola, the editor of the volumes.

We are grateful to all who made this bittersweet occasion possible, in particular Ewen Bowie, the Centre for the Study of Greek and Roman Antiquity at Corpus Christi College, Ruth Chambers, Brill Publishers, and friends of John Moles. Thanks also to Laurel Fulkerson for providing the video.
