Warped Intertextualities: Naevius and Sallust at Tacitus Histories 2.12.2

Abstract

This paper argues that Hist. 2.12.2 alludes to Naevius, Bell Pun. fr. 32 and to Sall. BJ 41.2 and 5, and that these allusions greatly enrich the inversions characteristic of Tacitus' analysis of civil war.
